Event Description:

Financing your college education should not be a mystery. Join us to learn how the financial aid process works. Your college degree is not out of reach! Learn about general information, important deadlines, tips, resources, and reminders. Attendees will learn how to calculate and understand Expected Family Contribution (EFC), Estimated Cost of Attendance, and be able to do Net Cost comparisons to determine the best options for you. This webinar will also cover appeal processes, special circumstances, and information about outside scholarships.

About The Speaker: 

Silvia Marquez currently serves as an Associate Director in the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. She was born and raised in Stockton and is the first in her family to attend college. Silvia completed her degree in Social Welfare at Berkeley in 1995 and began working for the Upward Bound Programs at Holy Names College and UC Berkeley. She joined the Berkeley Financial Aid and Scholarships Office in 1998 and completed her master's degree in Public Administration at CSU East Bay in 2004. Silvia left Berkeley in 2007 for opportunities at the College Board and at California College of the Arts. She returned to Berkeley in 2013, committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging at her alma mater.  Silvia is coordinating the implementation of the Undergraduate Diversity Project and serves on the UC Systemwide HSI Advisory Committee, the African American Initiative Steering Committee and the campus HSI Taskforce. Silvia is currently working on her doctorate at UC Davis in Educational Leadership.
