Event Description:

I will begin the class by going over CVS community agreements. I will

introduce myself, quickly discuss the article, the goal for this activity is to unwind and

take care of ourselves, then I will begin to create our DIY masks. While we are doing the

facial masks I will ask participants what their favorite thing to do for self-care is. Also,

discuss how self-care may feel different, selfish, or weird because our families are always

working with little to no breaks. Hopefully, we can share them a few self-care ideas

with them. To me, music is therapeutic and is a form of self-care and expression so I will

ask them who their favorite artist is and why? Then for one-two minutes I will play a

meditating song and focus on our breathing. At the end, we will do roses, thorns, and

buds.

About The Speaker:

Claudia Fabian (she/her) is a fabulous, first-generation student majoring in Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. While navigating such institutions, she carries her family and Oaxaqueña roots closely to remind her to push through! During the school year she is a full-time student, BUILD a literacy themtor, and occasionally makes videos on Youtube. She aspires to be a community leader and help students see their full potential and capabilities while exposing students and families to resources. Her current mantra is "Do work that matters, vale la pena" -Gloria Anzaldua. While in quarantine, she decided to focus on her emotional, mental, and physical health. It is what has led her to be more in tune with herself while encouraging herself and others to focus on themselves.
