About The Webinar
The Central Valley Scholars Graduate School Webinar, hosted by Brian Ramirez (He/Him), focuses on familiarizing attendees with choosing prospective graduate programs and schools, getting organized before applying, navigating the graduate school application process, and choosing which graduate program and school to attend. Brian will also share about his own graduate school experience as a First Generation Low-Income Latinx student having who started graduate school in Fall 2020 and graduated in June 2022.
About The Speaker
Brian is a former first-generation graduate student and equity-focused housing development professional from South-East Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A in Urban Studies (Class of 2020) and from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs with a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (Class of 2022). Brian will draw from his own robust experience applying to graduate school programs in Late 2019/Early 2020. Brian was offered admission to 7 out of the 8 graduate programs he applied for including urban planning programs at UCLA, University of Southern California, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, New York University, University of Michigan, Columbia University, and Harvard University. Since hosting The Central Valley Scholars Graduate School Webinar in Summer 2020, Brian has served on the application reading committee for the UCLA Luskin MURP program and hosted three informational events for first-generation and BIPOC-identifying perspectives students interested in the graduate program.

At Central Valley Scholars, we believe in community knowledge and the right for every student to have access to the information they need in order to advance to higher education.
